The gods made the handfast

for a year and a day

because they knew that a woman like you

could woo the world

but couldn’t make it last

They wanted you to know

what it was to be loved

what it was to be tempted

and taken

but not forever

Because nothing lasts forever

especially not an eternal symbol

painted over the heart of a jealous lover
